The National Science Foundation, (NSF), and the
Department of Energy, (DOE)
The "Pan American Advanced Study Institutes", (PASI), Program
is an initiative that is jointly supported by the Department of Energy,
(DOE), and the National Science Foundation, (NSF). Pan American Advanced
Studies Institutes are short courses of two to four weeks duration
that involve lectures, demonstrations, research seminars and discussion
at the advanced graduate and post-doctoral level. PASI aims to disseminate
advanced scientific and engineering knowledge and stimulate training
and cooperation among researchers of the Americas in the mathematical,
physical biological sciences, and in engineering fields. Whenever
feasible an interdisciplinary approach is recommended.
Ibero America Science & Technology Education
Consortium, (ISTEC)
The College of Engineering at USF has been an affiliated member
of the Ibero-America Science & Technology Education Consortium,
(ISTEC), for the past three years. ISTEC is a nonprofit organization
comprised of educational, research, multilateral organizations
and industrial institutions throughout the Americas and the Iberian
Peninsula. The Consortium was established 14 years ago with the
mission of conceiving, planning and carrying out activities related
to higher education, R&D and technology transfer. The primary
purpose of ISTEC is the facilitation of scientific and technical
progress in the region. Dr. Moreno is presently the director of
the ISTEC R&D Initiative, which provides access to state-of-the-art
technology for educators and researchers. These technologies are
used to teach advanced concepts and experiment with new techniques.
Through these methods member institutions have gained access to
updated networking technology, telecommunications equipment, advanced
software platforms and new computer equipment. All of this information
is available to ISTEC members via the ISTEC Portal. Another benefit
of this mechanism is the creation of a vehicle for University-Industry
collaborations.
